Regarding fees for professional services…
From Harry Beckwith’s The Invisible Touch:
“Products are made; services are delivered. Products are used; services are experienced. Products possess physical characteristics we can evaluate before we buy; services do not even exist before we buy them. When you contract for a service, you are buying the promise of future performance.”
From John Ruskin (1819-1900) British author, essayist, critic:
“It is unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot – it cannot be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.”
Anonymous:
“The lowest commission rate rarely means the highest net proceeds for a seller. Too often the company/agent with the lowest fee can’t or won’t do the advertising and marketing, or possess the track record, brand awareness, expertise, negotiating ability, and follow-through that leads to the highest sale price. Saving half a percent on the brokerage fee while losing two or three percent (or more!) on the sale price will cost a seller thousands! As with any professional service, the lowest bidder is not often the best value.”
From Co-Owners Tom Kreuser and M.J. Seiler:
“Most of our business is done with previous clients, friends, relatives, acquaintances, and corporations with whom we have established and maintained long-term relationships. To be equitable, we determine the lowest commission rate we can charge while still meeting our clients’ goals (maximizing their net proceeds) consistent with making a fair profit, and then charge that fee!”
